We’ve seen rallies, hashtags, and endless FB debates screaming for “government change,” “clean politics,” or full-on revolution. But hold up—what if that’s just a symptom of something deeper? What if our nation’s chaos—divided families, corrupt leaders, endless faction fights—is because we’ve swapped God’s glory for political idols?
Haggai 2:9 drops the mic: “The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.” (NKJV)
Peace? Unity? That’s what we crave! But instead, we’re worshipping “political gods” like modern-day Baals. Let’s EXPOSE THE TRUTH and call for REVIVAL, not revolution! Let’s dive in—Bible in hand, heart on fire!
We Filipinos love our heroes—Rizal, Bonifacio, and now, every election cycle’s “savior.” But when politics hits home? BOOM—families explode! Wives estranged from husbands, kids blocking parents on social media, relatives ghosting reunions. All over red vs. pink vs. yellow flags!
Bible Echo: Exodus 20:3 warns, “You shall have no other gods before me.” When we idolize politicians, we reject God—just like Israel in 1 Samuel 8:7: “They have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them.” God gave them Saul as a “snare”—a leader who failed big time. Sound familiar? Our “kings” become traps when we ditch the True King! [^4]. No president, vice president, senator, congressman, supreme court justice, governor, or mayor can solve our nation’s problems — only God can.
You see strife even in families: In any election, a clan tito and tita — even married for 40 years— may stop talking over a candidate. Hearty reunion dinner? Silent treatment! We must step in with prayer: “Tito, Tita — Proverbs 17:1 says, ‘Better a dry crust with peace than a house full of feasting with strife.'” And yet, this is the reality of most Filipino clans!
Church leaders—wake up! We’ve let politicians mock God from the pulpit, turning God’s house into a campaign stage. Preachers defending “anointed” candidates? Or worse, pastors not correcting leaders that mock God! That’s not revival—that’s idolatry!
Instead: 2 Chronicles 7:14 calls us: “If My people… humble themselves, pray, seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.” Humble before God, let Him handle justice—not politicize His platform!
Pulpits were made for preaching Christ, not campaigning for candidates. The church must call for unity in God, and miracles can happen. But today? Some pulpits echo their undying support for political leaders. Psalm 118:8: “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.”
Corruption scandals? Endless. But it’s not the main problem — it’s a symptom of glorifying fallible humans over the infallible God. Pinoys hero-worship leaders, then cry when they sin. Newsflash: All humans fail—only God doesn’t!
Bible Proof: Jeremiah 17:5-7: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man… But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.” A nation fearing God gets blessed with peace (Proverbs 14:26).
Add-On Point: Like colonizers (Spanish friars twisting faith for control), today’s “heroes” divide us. Japanese occupation? Americans? [^2] We couldn’t unite because we looked to colonizers, not the Conqueror—Jesus! Colonialism thrives on division; God’s kingdom on unity (Psalm 133:1).
Atheists and critics twist this to build a “wall” against God in government. But Thomas Jefferson’s 1802 letter to Danbury Baptists? It was to protect the church from state interference! [^1]
Jefferson’s Words: “Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God… thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.” He meant no government meddling in faith—not banning God from society!
Bible View: God is King of nations (Psalm 47:8). Nations fearing Him prosper (Psalm 33:12: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord”). Misusing “separation” creates godless chaos—exactly what we see!
Anecdote: In 2020 lockdowns, churches closed while malls buzzed.[^3] Felt like persecution? It echoed this twisted “wall.” But God used it for house churches—revival in homes! Acts 5:29: “We must obey God rather than men.”
Revolutions swap one wicked leader for another. But revival? God heals from the inside! Pinoys can’t unite because we hate each other over politics more than we love God. Let go of “political gods”—repent, pray, and watch God heal!
Bible Call: Joel 2:13: “Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God.” If we do, stability, blessing, vindication follow. Like post-WWII rebuild—God blessed faithful pockets amid chaos.
Add-On Point: The Senate and the Congress may fight Corruption with anti-corruption bills, but corrupted hearts will stay corrupt, no matter what. Corruption will come back in many forms, and that’s a sure thing. Real change starts only with Jesus!
Problem | Political “Fix” | God’s Glory Fix | Bible Verse |
Family Division | More debates | Humble prayer | Ephesians 4:3 |
Church Complacency | Political sermons | Pure worship | Matthew 21:13 |
Corruption | New laws | Fear of God | Proverbs 29:2 |
National Disunity | Revolution | Revival | Psalm 133:1 |
Hero Worship | Vote “better” kings | Reject idols | 1 Samuel 8:18 |
Bottom Line: Philippines needs God’s glory filling our “house” (nation)—greater than former days! (Haggai 2:9) Let go of political snares; embrace the True King, our Lord and God Jesus Christ.
We may find ourselves arguing politics online till 3 AM. We may lose friends, and even strain family relatives. If we are guilty of this sin, we must hit our knees and pray: “God, if You’re real, unite us!” Be led to 1 Samuel — and realize we rejected God for our mortal “kings.” Repent, and peace will flood our homes. Now? Let’s rally for revival! Who’s next?
- Examine your heart—any political idols? Confess ’em!
- Pray for leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2) instead of bashing other people.
- Unite your family with a Bible study on unity.
Join a revival prayer group—let’s heal PH!
If Pinoys repent and let go of political gods, God will heal our land! But it’s an “IF”—your move.
Heavenly Father, forgive us for idolizing men over You. Break political chains dividing families and the nation. Restore Your glory in the Philippines—greater than before! Heal our land as we humble ourselves. Let Jesus reign as our True King! In Jesus name, Amen.
