During his collegiate days, creator Rock Punzalan first conceived these lovable characters with vegetable-shaped faces: Jungpuyo had an eggplant-shaped head, Pigoy (added in 2022) was sayote-shaped, Tamtam had a mango-shaped face, Longlong was ampalaya-shaped, Pooch was strawberry-shaped, and Osong was cabbage-shaped. While later characters moved beyond vegetable designs, the "Gulay" (vegetable) essence remains at the heart of the series.
Why "Gulay"? Because the Word of God is like vegetables—nutritious, tasty, and fun to consume, just like the Bible that nourishes and improves us. Every comic strip serves up biblical truth with humor and heart! 🥕🍆
